Students
who complete the YLI Program are also encouraged to participate
in the Alumni Ambassador Program. The Ambassador Program is an
opportunity for YLI graduates to continue connecting to the community
and to each other. The Ambassador Program provides graduates additional
opportunities to serve the community through volunteer efforts.
Alumni will determine, coordinate, and participate in service
projects of their choosing. Youth will also have the opportunity
to serve on the YLI Executive Committee which oversees planning
for the YLI Program.
Class
of 2007-2008
The
Class of 2007-2008 was the fifth graduating class of the YLI program.
Students in this year's class participated in the first Style
& Class Session in partnership with Younkers at Jordan Creek
to complete Fashion Missions, where students were challenged to
select outfits for various business situations, then judged on
their selections by Younkers associates and YLI mentors. Students
also took advantage of Iowa's first in the nation status to learn
about the Iowa Caucuses in December.
Class
of 2006-2007
The
Class of 2006-2007 was the fourth graduating class of the YLI
program. Along with completing the YLI curriculum, students completed
small group service projects with the Boys & Girls Clubs, Hubbell
Elementary, the Asian Festival, and a pen pal project between
nursing home residents and elementary students. This class also
participated in the first annual YLI Business Etiquette Dinner
hosted by the Des Moines Embassy Club and Tero International.
Class
of 2005-2006
The Class of 2005-2006, the third YLI graduating class, was the
first class to break into groups to plan and deliver their service
projects. Group projects included a mural at the Blank Children's
Hospital, a fun night for the Face 2 Face youth group, helping
the youth program at The Haven, and creating a youth board for
the Variety Club.
Class
of 2004-2005
The Class of 2004-2005, the second YLI graduating class, planned
a service project to provide an afternoon of fun and learning
for third grade students at Capitol View Elementary School in
Des Moines.
Class of 2003-2004
The Class of 2003-2004 was the first graduating class of the Youth
Leadership Initiative.
